I think that I’ve seen enough warnings that I’ll stay with what I’ve been using. I don’t want to pay for an engine over haul or a new engine. Thanks for all of the input.

Pappy is right on. But you still have to be careful. Years ago I had a 9.9 Merc and made the mistake of buying some very cheap K-Mart brand oil. I can't remember the rating on it but about every 5 miles I had to remove the plug and clean it as it would get fouled and the motor wouldn't run. As soon as I could I went to better oil and no more problems.

Feel free to read here about TC-W3 Two Stroke Oil Certification.
The testing is indeed both comprehensive and expensive.
Certification - TC-W3
Changing oil every year at 200.00 is better than buying a motor every 10 yrs .
Been using it on my 2003 225 opti for years with no problems.

There will be days when the fishing is better than one's most optimistic forecast, others when it is far worse. Either is a gain over just staying home.
The most important thing about 2 cycle oil is to mix it according to what the manufacture calls for, do not cheat on how much, this is way more important than what brand oil. If your outboard is old and it calls for 16-1 or 24-1 that is what you must mix to keep the outboard running fine, on newer outboards that call for 50-1 then that is what you use. As long as the 2 cycle oil you have says TCW on the can it is OK to use. One more thing 100 - 1 like some people will tell you is OK, it is not unless you don't care about your engine.
