    Default 2008 Mercury optimax 75hp

I usually run DFI synthetic. But I need to fill the tank to fish and can't find any locally. Thinking about this. Any comments...will this be ok?Name: Screenshot_20191213-172653.jpg

I don't know what DFI is, but the oil shown is a "blend" which means it is not a pure synthetic. If you are looking for a true synthetic, this is not it. That being said, I am sure it will work fine.

Yep, it will do fine. TCW3 is a high standard, if it meets it, run it.
I usually run Quicksilver TCW3, but on occasion I have run Penzoil TCW3 with no problems.
BTW you can get a gallon of Penzoil TCW3 from Amazon for around fifteen bucks a gallon, heck of a deal.

Be careful, some of these new DFI motors run a different spec oil. Check the specs real close because I have read where they will not mix.

Used to get and read Bass and Walley boats religiously. They were a magazine dedicated to performance and tons of maintaince Articles.
They did several reviews on oils over the years. Only Pennzoil they ever recommended was their pure synthetic for high rpm race motors. Other than that it was way down the list for outboards.

I was told the same about not using Pennzoil.

Best I could figure out was that DFI engines do not mix the gas before injection. They inject both at the same time. There are mainly only two manufacturing DFI Mercury and Quicksilver.

The Optimax is a direct injected motor and Mercury DFI was specified for that motor. Before Mercury came out with the DFI oil the earlier Optimax motors called for Mercury Premium Plus oil. I believe Mercury owners manuals say that if the DFI oil isn’t available that You can substitute the Premium Plus oil. You can get it at Walmart.
