I just bought the complete water pump kit, gaskets and all for about $70 for my 2001 yamaha 60. It is easy to redo everything if you have some mechanical abilities.

Dang it, I thought I had a simple problem. My motor overheated while running at full throttle. When putzing along, it seems fine. So I ran it without the thermostat, lo and behold, no overheating. I install a new thermostat, and double dang it, it overheats again. So now I guess I'm gonna get cover gasket and head gasket and see how the passages look. Sound like a plan. It's a 2007, and has been run in the salty stuff.

SlabQueen said that you need to slow down and fish......

Slab , could very possibly be a piece of trash from the impeller change is causing a blockage at high rpm / pressure. That is 1 of several reasons that I opted for redoing the entire water system for a few dollars more. When I do it, everything will be new and completely cleaned out.

With it running okay without the tstat makes me think a partial blockage somewhere. Without the tstat you decrease the pressure going through the system. In my saltwater days we changed impellers , tstats and pressure washed the entire cooling system at the end of summer. Saltwater will have a tendency to cause water jacket to rust internally. I could be wrong just ask my wife...lol

Plenty dirty in there. But nothing that's causing blockage IMHO. So dono. I'm just gonna clean it all up and replace the temp sensor, and see what happens! Hoping it's just a bad temp sensor!
Not really as dirty as you would think in the water jacket
The love for fishing is one of the best gifts you can pass along
With the tstat installed it could easily be enough restriction to cause it to get warm. But now that you mentioned it that temperature sensor is one of the few issues with yamaha outboards.
