Default wiring for 24v trolling motor

son just bought a terrova and gave me his 70# minnkota 24v edge. i was running a 46# 12v motorguide and already have an extra deep cycle mounted on boat as a spare. as i understand it all i need is a jumper cable between the 2. google tells me i need a 40 amp breaker on positive side between battery and motor. thoughts? this is all new to me and i want to make sure his setup is correct also. thanks.

Batteries have to be wired in series. 50 amp breaker. Minimum 8 gauge wire going to troller. Idealey batteries should be same size and age.
