Sure sounds like the hub has spun out to me. Nut would have to be really loose to allow the shaft to spin inside the prop.
I have a 2006 225hp Yamaha HPDI on 1998 20 ft Skeeter. Went fishing today but it was short trip. When I hit the throttle to get on plane all I got was a spin out. Loud and no bite from prop. Goes into gear easily and can move the boat at up to fast idle. But the spinning out of prop begins when I hammer down.
Not sure if the hub blew out or what. Took prop off and did not see anything wrong. But the nut on the prop was not as tight as it should have been but the cotter key was in place and only very minor "wiggle" of prop. It was put on motor a few days ago. Would the fact it could have been tighter affect the performance.
Not a mechanic and would appreciate getting some help.

Sounds like the hub has spun loose from the prop body.
The love for fishing is one of the best gifts you can pass along
You need a new prop hub....the rubber has broke down in yours and its spun the hub.
I have spent most my life fishing........the rest I wasted.

Like everyone else sounds like spun hub. There easy to install sometimes the problem is getting old outer. Rubber out.
How do I check the hub? Took prop off and didn't see any damage but will take it off again today. Is a Yamaha prop, 4 blade 26 pitch. Is th hub internal?
The hub is pressed in. May take a prop shop to determine if it's slipping or someone with much more know how than I can offer.

Like everyone has said. You have a spun hub. If you want to verify that, draw a line on the back of the prop (see red line in picture) then try it again. If the line is no longer straight, the hub is spun. Take it to a prop shop to have a new one pressed in.
