Looks like that was stuck good. Maybe some marine grade never seize would help removal next time. Especially around salt and brackish water
I loosened the bolts on the mounting bracket. That bracket is supposed to slide up and down in a track. That bracket would not budge. I literally had to put a floor jack underneath it with a 2x4 and put the whole weight of the boat on it. While hitting the bolts with a hammer, the bracket would finally slide. I can't believe how tight it was.
Here are the brackets that run inside the track, you can see that they are cracked and splitting.
I have new brackets and they look the be slightly smaller. I think they changed their design. I think the aluminum swelled and froze them in place. I know aluminum swell, but I think there's a degree of corrosion that occurs, especially if the boat's been in salt water.
Anyone else come across something like this? Just thought I'd share.

Aluminum will corrode and oxidize....that was a big problem when I was in the Navy. The aircraft that we used for anti submarine patrol and maritime patrol flew every day for hours very low level sometimes just 50 or 60 ft. above the water. The salt caused lots of problems. Corrosion control was a regular thing.
I have spent most my life fishing........the rest I wasted.
