Knocking in the block is not good. Do yourself a big favor and do not invest any money in the motor.
I just bought a 99 tracker 175 from an older man for 200$. He said it has been sitting for 2yrs. I took it home and rebuilt carb, changed the water pump, spark plugs. It fired right up. I had the ears on the motor and no water came out of the pee hole and I can hear knocking in the block. So I did a compression test and 120 on both cylinders. Then I let it run a minute and it was hot as afire cracker and a little water was building up in the bottom of the cowling. Si is it my worst nightmare or a simple fix? Any thoughts greatly appreciated.

Haha I know they are junk. I just pulled the head and the crank case is nasty. So anybody know anybody who has a 50 to 75 hp motor for sale? As long as it's a merc I wont have to change out controls.
So you got a 17 foot bass tracker for $200??? Or did you mean $2000? If the $200 is accurate definitely don't waste any money on that Force. You should be able to find a good motor in that hp range for a reasonable amount. You can probably sell the lower unit alone off of the Force and get your money back.
Yes so it was really just $200. All it needs is new carpet but everything else works from gauges and live well ect. I guess I will try and find a 60 or 75hp.

If you had a local mechanic, you might could work a deal where you give him the old motor for parts and he fixes you up with something he's built/put together on a deal. However, if money isn't a concern, then upgrade to a new or near new motor and be done with it since you got the boat for a bargain price.
