I keep mine on tight with the vent open
My son took my boat out yesterday and said the motor was surging and hard to keep idling. We checked all the fuel lines for air leaks and made sure there was no water in the fuel. The only thing I can think of is maybe the fuel cap was loose on the tank. Should the cap be kept closed tight or would it being loose be causing to problem?
I may be getting older but I refuse to grow up.

A little more info would probably be helpful...year, make, model, hp ect.
I doubt it's the fuel cap.
Check inside the fuel line. May be partially clogged.

Are fuel lines on engine new as well? That's where mine clogged,,,,I had to blow through each one to find the one that was bad,,,,so I changed them all once I saw what happened,,,
