    Default Motor surging

My son took my boat out yesterday and said the motor was surging and hard to keep idling. We checked all the fuel lines for air leaks and made sure there was no water in the fuel. The only thing I can think of is maybe the fuel cap was loose on the tank. Should the cap be kept closed tight or would it being loose be causing to problem?

A little more info would probably be helpful...year, make, model, hp ect.
I doubt it's the fuel cap.

Check inside the fuel line. May be partially clogged.

All the fuel supply lines are new as well as the fuel filter. The bulb works as it should. I changed the fuel/water filter and made sure it is tight. I'll check the vent on the cap and make sure it's venting and then tighten the cap completely.

That's what I'm going with. If it surges with the cap off, it's not the vent stopped up so that eliminates that.

If the fuel pump is faulty, you can typically pump the primer bulb while it is acting up and remedy the issue. Would need motor specifics to really narrow it down more though.

Are fuel lines on engine new as well? That's where mine clogged,,,,I had to blow through each one to find the one that was bad,,,,so I changed them all once I saw what happened,,,
