    Default Trailer Brake Question

Looking for a little advice since I am not a mechanic. Bought another boat and pulled it home to Ky from Tx. On the way back we came across an accident and it was stop and go for about 45 min. The trailer brakes started squeaking and were really hot. My sense is they got hot, the metal expanded and the brakes started rubbing (lots of dust on the wheels). They finally cooled and quit squeaking and we made it back. Took the boat to wash it and noticed the hubs were really hot again, but not squeaking. I am not sure if it has a bad solenoid, actuator not working right, calipers stuck causing pads to rub or what. Any thoughts?? I don’t have the know how to fix it. Is this a marine mechanic job or should I just take it to a vehicle mechanic that does brakes? Wish I were smart enough to diagnose and fix myself, but my skill set is not mechanical.

Is this a surge brake system? You mentioned brake disc, this is a disc and not drum system?
    I'd rather be fishing.

Pretty much any shop that repairs trailer brakes can fix it for you. Have them check, repack the bearings too. Cheap insurance.

Solenoid on surge brakes don’t do anything when moving forward. Hubs do get hot when braking. Usually so hot you don’t want to keep your hand on them.

I am not a mechanic, but I learned they are surge brakes and I learned a little from the mechanic about how they work. He said ther was an inner lining in the brake line that had deteriorated and and basically blocked the line is how I understand it. This caused the brakes to drag on the disc and generate all the heat. He replaced the line, purged the lines and new fluid. Im sure Im not explaining as clearly as I should but not my area of expertise. Thanks to all who have replied. I have a little better understanding and hopefully dependable brakes now.
