I have a Yamaha F75 and installed the Sierra kit. Top quality components, works perfectly. I'll do it again next time.
Experience and/or opinions on using Aftermarket or OEM Water Pump Kit in Yamaha VZ200. Aftermarket is almost half the price, but is it worth maybe taking a risk on something that is not reliable?
Thanks

I recently bought a used 2014 Yamaha 9.9 and it would not pump water. I picked up a new impeller from the Yamaha dealer and later ordered a non OEM kit on-line. I pulled the foot and the impeller looked perfect and I almost put it back as is, but decided to install the Yamaha impeller. Worked perfect but I am at a loss as to why the other one didn't. They look identical to me. Anyway I also have the other kit as a spare when I need it. Also have the one I took off but am scared to try it again.

The one that wouldnt pump wasnt put in with the vanes in the wrong direction was it ? It makes,a difference the direction you curve them.

I didn't think to look before I pulled it off. I took small engine repair courses from a BIA certified instructor years ago and he told us you should try to orient the vanes correctly but when the pump is spinning at high speed the vanes lay down quite a bit and it will self correct.Originally Posted by G";3590663]The one that wouldnt pump wasnt put in with the vanes in the wrong direction was it ? In theory that makes sense, but I never was 100% convinced it would work so I always set mine correctly. I found the easiest way to do it is to position them correctly in the housing and slide it on as a unit. Some folks put the impeller on first and "spin" the housing over it to seat but that seems harder to me. In either case you have to be sure the impeller is seated over the key in the shaft.

Always OEM. Theres a reason why the others are half the price. JMO
