    Default Kill switch problem

Hey fellas I recently had a kill switch that's not killing my motor . I replaced it and still having the same problem. I am getting voltage to the kill switch also I have continuity from the body of the boat and the ground wire at kill switch (aluminum boat). What else should I check.

What motor? Make sure that ground is good all the way to the motor.

Ohm out the switch to make sure it has continuity through it: Disconnect switch from outboard, no power to switch and then use volt/ohm meter to verify switch is opening and closing. If it doesn't close it will not work.

I put in a new switch and it still isn't killing the engine also checked the ground wire at the switch and it has a good ground.

Still sounds like a poor ground. Use a ground directly from the battery when testing. Check voltage on both sides of the switch with the switch activated. If you have any voltage on the switch you have a poor ground. If no voltage at switch check the 12volt + wire for a poor connection or partial break or corrosion.
    Hope this helps.

Does the key switch kill the motor?
    I'd rather be fishing.

Yeah, if the key switch works properly then you have a defective kill switch or its installed wrong. Simple quick test can be done with an ohm meter. Turn the key on. Find the black/yellow wire at the switchbox(s). Put 1 lead on it and the other on a good ground. With the kill switch in the run position you should see an open circuit. With the kill switch tripped you should see continuity (very low ohms).

The chances of the first one being bad are very low. The chances of the replacement being bad are much lower. Do you have an ohm meter?
