    Question Fuse Block question

Bought fuse block to install in my 2017 Alumacraft. The fuse block has a 15 amp in it out of the box. I have put 3 amp fuses in the six vacant slots in preparation to connect my HB electronics. What purpose does the 15 amp fuse serve?.

Lets see if I can make this simple. Keep in mind that fuses primary purpose is to protect people, not electronics. The wire feeding the fuse block will (should) be larger than the wires feeding the electronics as it needs to carry to carry the total amperage that may be needed. The 15 amp size is based on the size of the wire feeding the block and the 3 amp is based on the size of the wire(s) feeding the electronics. A lot more comes into play but hopefully that helps.

    What model Alumacraft is it?

Most alumacrafts (side console, Competitor, Dominator, Trophy, etc...) all come with a built in bus under the dash. The bus is wired for both posative and negative leads.

Some of the buses are wired directly to Aux switch on the dash (in the case of my dads Dominator).
My Competitor is NOT wired this way. Bus is wired direct to the battery (personal choice as I hate to flip a switch and turn on or off all my gear).

This main bus is protected with a fuse. There is a posative and negative side. You run your electronics with your inline fuse to the main bus for power.

Apologize if this isn't your setup but you might want to have a look before you install this panel. It could save you a ton of trouble.

For future reference ---- my brothers boat has a fuse and switch panel on his dash.. when things began to not work --- fuses good, switches good. the Problem was the crimp on connectors on the wire had corroded so no current would pass.. when things get older the wire connectors could need replacing
