check spark and compression
I went out yesterday and had a difficult time starting motor. The normal procedure vent gas cap, prime bulb, neutral idle lever at about 75%, turn key to on position, push and hold choke til count of 8 then start. It always started w/o hesitation.
I struggled with it yesterday when it did start idled 1000 rpm's then it would shut off; when it finally started I went up river about 1/2 mile and back couldn't get above 3000 rpm and 24.6 mph WOT compared to the normal 5000 rpm and 39-41 mph WOT.
1. fuel lines / new primer bulb (old gray lines had deteriorated inside) last fall
2. spark plugs last fall
3. sea foam cocktail worked wonders spring of this year
4. non-ethanol gas w/ 1 can sea foam 20 gal. tank
anything else before I go to a boat shop considering the fuel pump kit next.
Thanks in advance for your help!

check spark and compression
does it have, I forget what it's called, the overheating protection on it?? check water flow. I've read where that can cause a motor to run at only half throttle to protect from over-heating.

Pull the cover, look for a inline fuel filter. Pull that filter trying to keep gas in filter much as you can. Pour it in something clear and check for water. Also pump the bulb with that line open into a container and check that container for water. That's only thing I can think of that would cause a low power problem from one trip to the next if you didn't have any problem last time out. Also if you can post the serial number.
Thanks everyone for your help and suggestions, everything you all mentioned checked out ok. The stator was shot didn't mess up trigger though; were up and running again with even more power.
Thanks again
