    Default 40hp mercury??

I have a 2003 40 horse mercury. It has started running like crap. I noticed on the left side of carb (if facing motor crib the back) that at the top there's a set screw of some sort. Right beside it is a empty hole were looks like another one should be. I've looked all in the engine and cannot find anything. Is there 2 that's supposed to be there?

Tracker, go to this site, find your motor, look up carb and it shows you all the parts. Should be able to figure it out from the diagram.

Not sure when the new fuel lines that are compatible with ethanol gas (E10) came about but a lot of these threads where a motor just starts running like crap end up being caused by deteriorating fuel line. Since the liners start coming apart on the inside of the fuel line most people don't see it. Usually cleaning the carb, fuel filters and fittings then replacing all your fuel lines with lines rated to handle the E10 will solve your problems.
    Good luck with your motor.
