Default Electric trolling motor vs trolling plate vs kicker on 22' pontoon

Need help in slowing down my 22 ft Lowe Pontoon with 115 HP 4-stroke Mercury. Can only get down to 2.6 MPH (without shifting occasionally to neutral) to troll crank baits....would like to get down to 1.0 to 1.5 MPH. Still have fairly good luck with this speed, but slower would be much better. Don't really want to mess with buckets or socks!

Have researched trolling plates and would choose the Trol-A-Matic Trolling Plate over the Easy Troller Plate. Another option would be an electric trolling motor (heavy, inconvenient and expensive). The other option would be to add a kicker (expensive)
    Any thoughts out there?
    Thanks,

I used a Troll a matic on my 18 and a half ft. G3 boat that I used to have....it had a 115 Yamaha four stroke on it....it worked good trolling.....only drawback was they do not back up real good with them...have to back real slow.
I have spent most my life fishing........the rest I wasted.

Trolling plate seems like cheapest fix but I love have a good tm. I'd go with a 36v new Bluetooth terrova or ulterra but they are expensive.

Get the troolomatic and be done with it. My plat works like that and I have adjusted to the baking part so no big deal. If it's a problem, rig you a cord with something to hook it on when loading boat.

Hello: I've used the Trol[a-matic on several boats that I owned. They worked great for me. I don't know how far you have to travel with the pontoon but if the trolling plate is still not slow enough you might try a smaller prop. Good Luck. O - R

Just ordered the Trol-A-Matic Trolling Plate from Cabela's. Won't be able to install it for a while, but will let you know how I like it! Thanks for your replies and help!

Sounds like a plan. Have you considered a 4 blade prop?

Yesterday finally got my Trol-A-Matic Trolling Plate installed. Went out for 2 hours this morning and it worked great. Lowered the speed on my gps from about 2.7 or so down to 1.5 mph. Was concerned for the first 4 minutes but then caught my first crappie and the rest of the morning went well as I caught about 12. Will try to get and post pictures in the next few days. I know there is a link and I have posted pics before but that was having to take pics with a camera, posting to picasa and then to this sight.
