    Default Busted Cowling

2007 25 hp 4 stroke electric/manual start . Storms knocked a limb out of an oak tree and busted the cowling on my motor, now what do I do? It's in pieces and looking online for a replacement didn't help much, any suggestions on where to look? From what I'm seeing complete replacements running around 5-700 bucks and that's a little pricy for me but I wanna replace it at a reasonable cost!! Any suggestions or direction would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks,

Maybe check with junkyards or local boat stores ?? I know that one of our local boat dealerships used to have a "pile" out in back of their building, where wrecked, burned, or otherwise useless boats/motors were scrapped. Don't know if they still do, or if any in your area do the same ... but, it only takes a phone call to find out.

For what they want for a new one a good automotive body shop should be able to reconstruct it for much less.

First thing I would do is check my homeowner policy, see what deductible is if any and see if they would cover it. Like Clint said if out of pocket a good body shop that works with glass and polymer should be able to rebuild a lot cheaper. That cowl should be made of the newer polymer material rather than glass.

Well it turns out that I DO have insurance with 0 deductible!! I knew that I had a boat policy but thought it was liability only and almost dropped it a couple of years ago. Got in touch with Progressive and they told me that I was covered and to go to Bass Pro and get replacement cost, Cowling is 565.99 dollars and the decals are (now get this) 208.41!! For stickers, can you believe that, wow!! Adjuster is coming out tomorrow!! Progressive has been nothing short of amazing in this particular case!! Cost of insurance per year is 108.00 dollars and it has just paid off!!
    Thanks for all the replies!!
