Hello: I would also replace all the fuel lines while replacing the pump. Does your outboard motor have it's own fuel pump under the engine cover ? I had a Mercury outboard that did. I had to rebuild the pump which was cheap and easy then my problem was fixed. Good Luck. O - R

Yes, its a pump under the cover. I saw a few rebuild kits that were very high priced as well for it, I could buy half a dozen regular pumps for what even one rebuild kit seemed to cost.

I replaced all the lines last night finally.

I idled on muffs and watched the fuel level in the filter, and saw it dropping. I changed the lines, And also stuck the bare line directly into the gas tank, to rule out a leaking quick connect or problem in the tank. The fuel level still dropped, and seemed to not be able to keep up with fuel.

Really the only thing left besides the pump (I hope) is the quick connect at the engine. I should bypass that and clamp the fuel line directly to the filter, and stick the other end into the tank and check I suppose.

One thing to at least look at and rule out is what's the compression on cylinder number 2 and is it different than number one, reason I ask a cylinder with some scorning on the sleeve and lower on compression than the top cylinder can cause problems as its the cylinder than runs the fuel pump and blow by on a piston may cause the pump to work poorly, just a thought as I have seen it before, a replacement pump for a 48 special will replace the vro pump and use the same fitting to make it run

Well lets just hope its not a compression issue.

I installed the new pump today, ran it on muffs, but couldn't really tell. The filter would drain at idle, but raising rpm a tad I could see gas pumping in. I'll find out tomm as we are going out again. Fingers crossed!

    Well,

It ran fine today with the new pump, although I wont rest easy until I get a tank or two of gas through it.
