    Default Outboard Cleaning question.

So I had a regulator melt down which cover the engine with black soot. I was wondering what others do to clean under toe cowl of their motors. With my trucks I use a de-greaser and the pressure washer with a low pressure nozzle on it.
Anybody have any recommendations as to how to clean up this block?

Sorry I never clean under the hood of my outboards unless I have them completely stripped down no wiring no carbs or flywheel, then I use oven cleaner which strips the paint if left on very long. I would go with something mild and be careful unless you strip everything off and tape off what you can't.

Now I see your other post and see why you are wanting to clean. Some Mean Green or Purple Power might work...be careful and don't let any harsh cleaner get on anything you are not going to repaint. Looks like you may be repainting the motor. I think you made the right call not taking the cowl off which would have let more air to the fire. Good luck.
