    Default Which is the culprit?

Bad gas or bad tank to engine (bulb) line?

Launched Pondtoon Friday and headed home from the public launch. About a mile east, the engine started running like crap. The engine would idled just fine, but when I added throttle, it just choked down and ran rough.

I idled on in tho out dock, idle was smooth. I got the tank and line off the Jon boat and went out for a spin. The engine ran a little rough but finally cleared its throat. Runs fine and dandy now. (( 2011 30hp 4 stroke Merc. very low hours.))

The gas is only 3 months or so old. The line looks ok. I saw no leaks. I can't hear. What's next? Causes?

Most time the bulb is going bad when that happens. Sounds like u might have lil trash in there as well. Do u have inline fuel filter in it?

you by chance don't have the grey color fuel line do you ??? if so your fuel line has gone bad, I had that happen to me !!! here is how I found it I took the line of the bulb and the connector to the engine I could not blow air thru the hose , that hose has a clear inner tube that will collapse due to ethanol gas !!! I replaces the fuel line motor runs like a champ !!!!

Yes it is silver. The engine is sold as a package deal from Mercury. Engine, tank, line combo in 2011. I got it from a member hear. Had less than 3 hours on it. He couldn't use it on his boat because of lake engine size restrictions.

Your bulb may have hairline cracks that you can not see....idling it runs fine but open the throttle and it will suck air thru the cracks and it seems like you are running out of gas....been there, done that....strmwalker is correct...the other cause could be the grey fuel line....that 2 foot section is a piece of junk....on my 150 merc that line just melted inside and fell apart at the plastic connector....go to Pep Boys and get some of that black fuel hose....works great....I would replace the hose first....it will definitely fail sooner or later....

The grey line from Mercurys that causes problems has red lettering on it. The inner liner comes apart and clogs things up in the fuel system. The newer grey line from Mercury that has blue lettering is decent stuff. I'd replace the line, bulb and fuel filter with OEM parts. ( not Walmart)

Hopefully this will fix your problems but sometimes small pieces make their way to the fuel pump and the carbs or injectors.
