    Default Cheap parts cleaner

I have used my vibrating buffer to mix aluminum paint before, but never tried this though. Good idea.

I use a plastic container (peanut butter jar, shoe box, cool whip bowl, etc.) and regular pine-sol cleaner. Simply set container/cleaner/parts on the work bench beside the bench grinder. Turn on bench grinder (it provides the "sonic" part by vibrating the table) and check parts periodically for cleanliness. Carburetors and the like take about 20 or 30 minutes.
Another good tip is for cleaning rusty parts. Use a plastic container of suitable size, fill with water, add a big handful of BORAX laundry soap. Place a sacrificial piece of steel and the rusty part (make sure they do not touch) in the container. Connect the positive lead of a battery charger to the sacrificial piece and the negative lead to the rusty part. Turn the charger on and watch the rust migrate from your part to the sacrificial piece.

Next time try this one. 50-50 mix water and vinager, let soak a day, check and put back in for another day. Really good for cleaning cast iron pots and pans.

I use the Borax system and it works great. I cut down a 30 gallon plastic drum to about 18" high and can clean big parts.

    Great ideas.
I have a 30 gallon parts washer I bought years ago when I was rebuilding transmissions. Still use it from time to time to actually clean parts. Most days the lid is closed and it serves as another work bench.
