    Default Johnson 150 question

So I found the name of this part and I think it adjusts the amount of fuel that can pass to engine? What is this and how does it work? Reason I ask is because the top cover is cracked and needs to be replaced. Posting a pic...it is the lever with the red nozzle. Thanks!

I looks like a schrader valve like a tire has. I believe they are on fuel injected engines to bleed the system of air. I may be wrong because i dont own or have worked on any.

According to some other thread posts I found it is possibly a part of the electric choke system? The red part is supposed to point at the solinoid to be in the open position and away from it to be in the off position. Don't know if that is true or not

Electric primer solenoid, red arrow should point toward the primer body,or a bit more to the left in your picture, it is for injection of engine tuner or fogging oil, and if the motor can be pull started with a rope , to manually prime fuel before pull starting the engine , if you turn it while the engine is running the motor will flood out because its getting way to much fuel. And no it will not run faster on top end if its turned on, probably wouldn't even get on plane. Many people who work on Johnson / Evinrude motors call them a maintenance valve

Ok great. I have to replace the top cover to that pump. I know it has a spring assembly inside. Any pointers?

Take the unit off, 2 screws hold it on, remove the top cover, 4 screws then remove the red valve only after the top cover is removed, install pointer arrow down , new gasket and reinstall top cover, make sure white plunger is in the slot on the pointer, check pointer operation before you reinstall 4 screws the reinstall primer to vapor separator , making sure the o-rings are good and intact

Rebuild kit for the primer solenoid that includes a new plastic cover (which is notorious for cracking just like their plastic carb bowls) and gasket is going to run $15-$20. Less than a ten minute repair you can do in the driveway.
