I don't have Merc., but even on my 'rude if there was gas squirting out around the carbs I'd be getting it fixed pronto one way or another. Heat from the motor and gas on it don't mix, fire hazard be careful !!

I would check the jumper lines between carbs first. One could have split in it letting it spray between carbs. You could get someone to pump bulb while you look and should be able to find it.

I figure it's some kind of vent cause after I sealed it up it would not start. I really hate outboards I don't understand why they gotta make things complicated
