I have an older lowe jon boat that I have removed the transom from and am building a new one out of plywood and am wondering what the best option is for epoxy to seal it? Where have you ordered it from in the past? Thanks.

I meant to behave, but there were just way too many other options available at the time.
Hello: Why wood ? Have a welding shop fabricate an aluminum transom instead of wood. Never have to worry about it again. Just my opinion. O - R

I dont know if this would help but i made a wood step for my boat and used fiberglass resin you get in automotive section at walmart. you add a hardner and mix and seemed to work great for my situation. maybe an option???
Thanks for the input guys. I looked at aluminum but man it's an old boat and I don't think it would be cost effective. I found a 2 part epoxy at menards that I'm going to try. Biggest concern I've found is that uv rays hitting the finish and this one doesn't see the light of day.
Raka.com for boat building epoxy. People build wooden boats sealed with fiberglass and epoxy and cross oceans.
Go with aluminum. Treated wood will corrode aluminum. Non treated wood will not outlive the boat. Spend a little extra and be done with it.
I'd rather be fishing.
Two votes for RAKA I buy my epoxy from them, they are out of Florida. Excellent products including glass cloth and mats. They have a good tutorial for choosing the correct type. I personally stay away from the polyester resins.

When I built boats for Correct Craft, every piece of wood was treated with a resin thinned 50/50 with acetone and a slow cure. This thinning allowed the resin to absorb deep into the wood before curing. We got 3 boats back for refurb from Egypt while I was there that had been run until they quit and stored in the open. None of the wood was compromised or needed replaced. If you were to use a resin to help with lamination of your transom materials, it might help you to keep this in mind. Be careful of the thickness as they are laminated, and extra 1/16th might make things tough. Keep us posted, i for one am paying attention.
