I have the opposite problem on my Merc 90hp t/t ... it raises, but won't lower

From what I've gathered, my problem is most likely the down relay ... either it's corroded or dead.

You might consider checking your up relay, before going after the pump system.

Also check and make sure the pressure release screw is tight. They're usually accessible through a hole in the frame, on the drivers side. Use a big flathead screwdriver, since most of those screws are hard plastic and smaller screwdriver heads can damage them.

CP, you can test your relay by switching the blue(up) and green(down) wires if it is the relay you will now have the reverse problem.

How much fluid did you have to add? If you added a lot there may be air in the system. I would find the release valve open it and manually raise and lower the motor a few times check fluid level close the relief valve and try the switch again

I have been chasing an intermittent problem with mine. At seemingly random times it would stop working. Would not go up or down. I have finally tracked it to what I believe is a bad motor or bad brushes in the motor. Next job is replacing the trim motor, doesn't seem too complicated.

Well guys I have done all the above several times. I took it to a hydraulics repair shop so the jury is out. Tohatsu wants $1400 buckaroos for a new one. I hope the hydraulic shop can fix it.
