Default Gas in oil on 4 stroke outboard

Changed my oil today and found gas in the oil. It's a 2003 Suzuki 40hp. I done some reading and seams common. They call it "making oil". All over the place on reasons. But seam to settle on bad fuel pump. Any body had this issue?

Had a bad plug on my Yamaha that caused that. Have heard prolonged idling like in trolling will cause it. I would change oil and maybe new plugs. Give it another run before starting to change parts. You might pm BigRiverMarine he is a dealer for susuki. He should be able to tell you for sure.

Many times it comes from the engine not running up to proper temp. Many of the manufactures have updated to a higher temp thermostat to help this problem.

Thanks guys, I read that just couldn't understand how that would do it. I'm sort of a shade tree mechanic and know when 4 stroke rings seat this shouldn't happen. But boats may be different. I will keep a close eye on it for sure.

It is common in in four stroke boat motors...It is caused by carbon buildup from lots idleing and slow running. Best fix is to mix one ounce of Ring Free to every ten gallons of gas. You can buy the Ring Free at most boat dealers and my local walmart carries it now.....it is made by Yamaha. It also helps to run the snot out of your motor some each time you go fishing.
I have spent most my life fishing........the rest I wasted.
