I replaced all the seals on a '95 merc 25 horse. Wasn't that bad. Wasnt sure which ones, so I did them all. Spent as much or more time watching videos, researching than working.
As already said, get a repair manual. I rented a gear puller from local auto parts store. Seal pullers are cheap.
Just do an online search, I think I bought the kit from either Amazon or eBay. Call a local dealer also. Depending on the age of your engine, you may not be able to only buy the part you need. Might have to get a "kit".
Look online for a service manual also. I found one for $10, CD version. It covers multiple years and hp range, with a little more details than repair manual. I print out what I need whenever I need it.

You can replace all of these no problem. The shaft seals can be a bit tricky on the Yamahas, but it can be done without any special tools if you are careful. I have done it myself a few times over the 11 year life of an F50 I currently own. You have to drill two, opposing, holes on either side of the seal and then screw in 4" long machine screws in each hole. Then with a pair of vice grips attach to each head. At the same time pull. The shaft seal will come out.

Dropping the entire lower unit on these motors is very easy. iboats.net has exploded diagrams. I have always found that parts locally are cheaper than ordering on line once you factor in their crazy shipping cost.

Last month replaced all lower unit seals, the water pump, clutch dog and spring, new prop, straightened a bent shift linkage and put it all back together again. As for mechanical skills, that depends on you. Best advice, buy the manual and watch youtube videos. Post one up yourself.

I bought all my parts from Marine Engine too. Great service, cost, and turn time. They don't jack the shipping cost if the parts come from several warehouses. you apy one shipping cost regardless of how many warehouses the parts come from. I also found they had the best prices and best part availability.

Let us know how it goes. Need help or have questions, ask!
