Default Has anyone used a Hydraulic Stick Steer before?

I've got an old Ezy Stik on my outboard jet boat and considering converting my side console boat (prop) over to stick steer as well.

Just curious if anyone has tried these Hydraulic Stick Steering systems. Any feedback would be great.

The sidekick system interests me as well.

Use the search function on here and look for Hyd stick steer. There is a gentleman on the Arkansas board that installed it on his boat. He seemed pretty impressed with it. I'd like to change mine over but a little pricey to fix something that's not broke yet. If I was going to convert one I wouldn't hesitate to use it though.

Took mine out Friday for the first time in a couple months. The stick steer seemed really stiff, thought it loosened up after a while but I might have imagined it. Anyone tried lubricating the steering cable? I've seen videos on lubricating the control cables but not the steering.

Ray, I don't know but you might look and see if the cable can be removed from the housing. Those are usually made by morse control. Used to use them on our big trucks a lot and some you could take apart and lube. If not I watched a video I think on YouTube about freeing up a stuck steering cable. Guy took cable loose at motor, rigged something to hold it straight up above boat as much as he could, took a piece of rubber hose that would fit over housing and hose clamped it to it. Hose was about 2 ft long, then put funnel in and clamped hose to it. Then he filled it with power steering fluid and let it sit for a day. The length of hose was so it had a resivour for fluid. After a couple of days of this it freed up a completely stuck steering cable so I would think it would be a good way to lube one. Now in my case it would probably be cheaper to buy a new cable for the mess I would make

Well I realize this is an older thread but I'm really interested in knowing how the HydraStick installs and performs. I have an ezystick on my panfisher and even with the trim tab adjusted properly it's a bear to steer. The HydroStick sounds like it would fix that problem. Hey CatchNgrease, how did it work on that Alweld? I'd bet you really like it!

The first one I bought was damaged in shipment. I sent it back and I installed the second one they shipped. I had hell trying to get all the air out of the system, but once I finally did, it works wonderful. I love it! I had the same problem with the EZY stik manual one. You will love the EZY-Glide Hydra-Stik Complete #HS-2500. Also, the cheapest place I found it is Marine Carpeting.com. I talked to EZY Glide and they said they do a lot of business with Marine Carpeting. The price is $945.00 out the door. No shipping charge nor Tax.

I used the same trick on combine cables except I added a hose fitting to apply air to the hose, maybe 5lbs or what the hose will stand. Then work the cable from the other end back and forth until the oil work its way through until it comes out the other end.
