Default Going to look at a used boat

    It is a 1993 Javelin with a 90hp 4 cylinder Johnson.
I was going to take a gauge and check the compression. Whats the best way to do this? Engine cold, warm up a little? I've been told a few different ways.
BTW, anyone have any opinions on this motor, or the Javelin? It's a 360A

Good bot great motor. Take all plugs out, disconnect gas, Jack throttle wide open and run your test cold. If those numbers are off just a little you might warm it up and see them stabilize a little.

I've got a 90 HP johnson. They are great motors and easy to work on if you are a diy type.

Seeing the age of this boat I would give the floor and the transom a good going for rot. To check the transom first look for strass cracks, tilt the motor all the way up grab hold of the lower unit and bounce the snot out of it and look for movement in the transom. If it flexes the transom is going to need to be replaced.

    Ended up buying the boat.
Compression checked good on all cylinders, No transom flex or rot that I could see and floor was solid. Motor fired right up.
There's a few minor things I'm going to replace/fix, but overall pleased. I like the layout of the interior. Short front deck, but long and wide, and no rear deck, similar to a walleye type boat. Perfect for longlining IMO. I've never been a fan of typical bass boat type casting decks.
Now, the fun part. Rigging it out!

Nice looking boat. When you get a chance post a couple of pic's of the inside. I'd like to see the rear section and what kind of room it has.

Plenty of room left and right in the rear, but a little snug fore and aft.
I've got a couple of ideas for the rear seat. EZT makes an offset seat pedestal for this so the guy in back won't hit his knees at the rear.
