Default Transom saver for a 20hp manual tilt?

I have a new Alweld 1448 jon with a 2016 Tohatsu 20hp manual tilt/trim outboard. Any need to buy a transom saver and travel with the motor tilted? There is plenty of room when the motor is down and if I leave the gear in reverse, the motor is locked in position and will not bounce around. Anything wrong with doing this?

    Thanks.

The transom saver is actually to take the stress off transom by stoping any movement. If you do it as described the motor will actually still move the transom back and forth as you drive down the road hitting bumps.

I've been hauling my 14' Polar Craft with a 35 Evinrude since 1983 without a transom saver. I hate to think how many sets of tires I've worn out on that trailer. I just let it hang vertically. Never had a problem, the transom is in perfect condition.

I am in the process of replacing the motor on my 1448 (25hp, 2 stroke Mariner) with a 25 h/p 4 stoke, would like to know how your boat performs with the 20 h/p. Total boat, motor & equipment wt. is about 750#s and I am concerned how the extra motor weight (55#) will affect the performance. I have always used a transom saver and feel that it is worth the effort to use...

I fished years from a 1436 with a 15 mercury then a 25 yamaha . Always used a transom saver and felt secure going over railroad tracks , crossing ditches when pulling with a 4-wheeler, ect. It may not be needed but have had a spare tire, extra set of bearings, races, dust caps, air pump, grease and castle kit with me at all times. Never have used any of these on a trip but feel they are worth carrying . JMO.

I have not used a transom saver on my war eagle with 30hp four stroke. Been hauling it around for 4 years without a problem. The certified boat dealer/maintenance shop that installed the motor said I didn't need one. Might have to reconsider. I absolutely use one on my Triton with a 200hp.

I have a waco 1436 and had a 15 hp merc 4 stroke with out a transom saver and it cracked the welds on the corners. I have had them repaired and now use a transom saver. Better to be safe than sorry! The alwelds and war eagles will probly not have any issues but the lighter aluminum boats need the transom saver!

Time and rough roads will eventually cause aluminum to crack!!
