Checking prices on ebay and amazon I could buy the controller 4 ways. One was with tabs for my harness wires to be soldered to the controller . One was to use a plug, but without harness. One was with a plug for the controller, wires at the end of the harness to be connected to wires on my harness. One was with a harness that plugs into the controller and into my truck. All were about the same price. $119 for the first two and $124 for the other two. Either harness can be bought for $13.
These are new product listings. Don't know if I would trust a used unit. Some of the used units were for sale at $40 to $80. Some were up for bid at $20 to $40. None of the listings showed a harness.

I bought the unit tha GM reccomended for my truck brand new from Amazon 68 dollars and free shipping. Cut wires on controller to length...spliced my GM pig tail to it and pluged it in under dash and that was it. Hooked camper to truck and set brake adjustment. Works great. It will run two axles and thats all I will ever need.

This one will run up to 4 axles. My son is looking at a 3 axle trailer for his farm equipment. I know I'll be hauling it some.

Very limited time installing the controller kit, 15 to 30 minutes per day since It was delivered. 3 sets if instructions came with it, none made any sence. If your truck has this, go to section 4. Refer to your owner's manual.
I watched a lot of you tube, most were installing a 7 way plug on the back of the truck before running wires to the fuse panel under the hood. There was one that used the 3025 harness, had to add wires to the fuse panel, remove 2 fuse blocks so a large 40 amp fuse could be installed. All the instructions said to use a 30 amp fuse.
I checked under the hood again. There are wires on the terminals of the fuse panel. The space for the fuse is empty. My son called saying he was headed over. Told him to get a large 30 amp fuse on the way. One side of the trailer is still jacked up. With him pressing the brake I can roll the wheels. I can feel very little drag on the shoes. When he moves the lever on the controller the wheels lock up.
When I get a chance I'll hook onto it and run it up and down the driveway. If they aren't strong enough I'll have to jack it back up, remove the drums to adjust the brake linings. These assemblies don't have a self adjuster.

Jimmy did you find the relay that came with the harness? If so it goes in the fuse box under the hood. Also my controler Prodgey 2 you have to set it up with the camper hooked up. Watch the video on how to do it. Took a few times to get my brakes set up right with it.
Also if your son is getting a triple axle trailer. If you load much on it, your truck is going to be way overloaded. Sure hope its not a bumper pull. My triple axle 33ft gooseneck tilt trailer is a load on a 1/2 ton truck by its self. But it also has all steel floor 8ft wide 33ft long.
Thinking about selling it and getting a 20ft dump gooseneck trailer.
    Pete
