    Default 24v batteries

Moving up to 24v Terrova and my boat came with 12v trolling motor and the battery is a basic 27 group Exide deep cycle. It's only a year old and found them at Menards for about 90 bucks. So being I'm going to 24v trolling motor I will need to buy another battery. I might just go get another Exide like what's in the boat now but does it matter what I get? Could I get a 31 group battery or even a AGM battery?? Do they have to both be the same or does not matter as long as they are 2 12v batteries? Thanks

They both need to be same age....same brand, same type, and same size. It will work for awhile mixed and unmatched but eventually your weakest battery will pull the good one down to its level and you will shorten the capacity and the life. Bite the bullet and get two new Group 31's deep cycle

"G" lets say you buy 2 new batteries and 2 years down the road one of them shoots craps but the other is fine. Are you buying 2 new batteries again when there nothing wrong with one of the old batteries that you bought 2 years ago????

Yes...thats it.....same way the truckers do with 3 batteries on their 18 wheelers. If that happens to me I am going to put the good battery on my tractor and use it up. And the remaining two year old battery in your scenario.....does have something wrong with it.....Its capacity is smaller than it was when it was new.....so you put it in series with a new one....its gonna pull the new battery down.

When I replace my trolling motor batteries I buy a pair (24 volt) and use strongest old deep cycle battery to start engine and run all pumps , lights and electronics . Sure good to have plenty of reserve power to run everything .
