Hello All,
I got tired of loading and unloading my boat/trailer gear tote (plastic tub) and decided to add a storage box to the side of the trailer. The box also serves as a step from the tongue into and out of the boat.
An idea of stuff in the storage box;
2 stroke oil,
Bearing grease and grease gun,
paper towels,
gloves,
trailer jack and lug nut wrench,
filleting equipment,
battery charger extension cord, and
a few other odds and ends.

Good idea! Could you tell us the make & model no. of the box? Also, if you could, post a photo of the underside mount--is there something else holding it up besides the tounge?
This is the box.

The box is not attached to the trailer tongue, it is mounted to steel tubing that is mounted to the trailer tongue. Suffice to say, it would be easier to break your truck window than accessing the box. Theft does happen at the ramp unfortunately. No amount of protection will prevent a determined/well prepared thief. If they really want a gallon of 2 stroke oil, there isn't much I can do about it.

Hanr3 is right, locks and things like that are ONLY to keep out honest thieves, if they want it bad enough they'll get it anyway.

A tool box left alone, locked or unlocked, is going to draw attention. They don't know it has oil and ropes in it until they destroy it and find out. For all they know it could have props, motor parts, or tools in it. Leaving it out in the open is just inviting thieves to give it a try.
Kevin22, that is one possible situation. Same goes for a tool box in the bed of your truck, or in the back of your SUV. Tool boxes are very common around here. Mine just happens to be mounted to the trailer. Not sure about you, however I don't need too many tools for my boat or trailer. A socket set, pliers, and some screwdrivers maybe. Not like there are power tools in the box. Not too many props for sale at the local pawn shops. Don't get me wrong, I thought about theft before I even mounted the box, however my conclusion was simple. It's a small box attached to a trailer. If I was fishing remote ramps, or near big cities that would be one thing. Its rare I am the only truck/trailer at the ramp. Especially on weekends. IF I was really worried about it. I would have bought a steel box.
Besides, we don't have that big of a theft problem.
