    Default tow vehicle

I'm in the need of another vehicle. Ive always owned trucks or truck type vehicles as in
suburbans for towing my boats and trailers.
I'm at the point in life where I no longer need a truck. But I still need to tow a smaller
sized boat. I'm considering the purchase of a 4wd Jeep Patriot suv as a daily driver and to
tow my 17' key west. It seems to be rated for 2000# which would be margional. Anybody
have any experience with these vehicles for towing that could offer first hand information?

I tow a 17' glass with an Equinox with a 3.4 liter V6 and it does a good job. Has a tow capacity of 3500lbs and gets around 19 20 mpg pulling boat. However I need to watch getting close to anything in front of me as it doesn't stop on a dime.

The bigger and heavier the tow vehicle....the more stopping power it will have because of bigger brakes. To me....stopping is a lot more important than pulling.
I have spent most my life fishing........the rest I wasted.

Friend has one and it barley handles a smaller boat than yours. Every part of it is to light built for a tow vehicle. Has has basically fallen apart from towing.

This is what I'm looking for and frankly expected to hear. I'm very familiar with towing heavy boats and trailers.

toyota four runner...you'll only get about 18 mpg but it is a body on frame vehicle with some weight and an awesome four wheel drive system. Sure footed and haul a boat out of the worst ramp even on slick stuff.

I drive a Chevy Traverse, 3.6L V6 with the tow package. The package offers all sorts of features, larger brakes, larger axles, larger radiator, 7 wire plug, with connections for brake controller under dash, tow/haul mode, and a few other things I know I'm forgetting. My traverse is front wheel drive and I average about 20-21mpg on the highway. Towing I get about 17-18mpg on the highway unless I let her run at about 2000 rpms, then I average about 14-15mpg on the highway. My boat/trailer fully loaded weighs 2880 pounds. Weighed last weekend. Includes a full tank of gas (22 gallons) and my 30 gallon live-well was full. With the tow package, I can tow up to 5,000 pounds. Without the tow package its only rated for 2000 pounds. I have no problem with stopping distance, and no problem getting up and going when I want to stomp on it. I do have 107,000 miles on her and she is due for a tune-up, tranny fluid change, and coolant change. It's a 2009.

Plus I can carry 7 passengers (4 captain chairs and a rear bench) and several dogs. There is a small cargo area behind the third row seating, big enough to haul all my boat gear, tackle boxes, sonar unit, and other stuff. However I added a cargo box to the boat trailer. That now carries all the boat/trailer gear. If I drop the rear bench I can haul all my camping gear and firewood, and still haul four to the campground.

The wife liked the sun roof (driver area), moon roof (passenger area), Bose stereo system, separate climate controls (driver/front passenger, and rear passengers), separate sound options for rear passengers, and a few other extras. All I wanted was the towing package.
