Bearings that are loose will cause BB to work its way off. A lot of people don't get the castle nut tight enough to seat the bearings before adjusting play so when they get on the road everything loosens up.

CatFan that is exactly what happened. I had to leave boat and trailer at a buddies lake house. This past weekend I went back to work on the trailer and a 2nd buddy came to help which is a mechanic. It was so much play in both of them it was unreal. When we took the left tire off the bearings just fell out! I have learned the best way to change the bearings is with the boat off trailer. We tighten the castle nut backed off a little, drove down the road with trailer and repeated this process a couple of times. I have just a hair of play in both of them now if that. You do just want a little little play in them, right?
Yep. The way my grandpa taught me many years ago was to really bear down to seat the bearing, then back the nut off until loose. Then tighten down until all the play was gone and back up one notch. Basically as little play as possible, but not zero play. That has worked for me over the years.
