    2000 4 stroke merc gotten to where it will only run on full choke. Any suggestions? Thanks. Paul

    thanks, recon that would be due to using ethanol, or what? I do use a stabilizer.

    been using ethanol in every gas powered engine I've got since somewhere around '70- '75 no problems Hard to get anything else in Jefferson county KY without driving out of the county. I've got a '77 johnny 85HP and an '80 100 HP rude they run on it just fine

    dump a can of seafoam in, let it run. Shut it down. Let it sit for a day and fire it back up. If this does not clear it up, get the carbs cleaned.

    It could also be that your low speed mixture screw is terribly out of wack. Applying the choke is essentially just creating a super rich fuel/air mixture so for in order for it to only run that way after it cranks means it is starving for fuel.

    If it is a clogged jet, it could be from ethanol residue but could also be from particles from an old, deteriorating fuel line or junk from your gas tank. Do you have a fuel filter anywhere? If not get a cheap inline FRAM filter from an auto parts store or Walmart and put it in between the fuel pump and the carb.
