Default Anyone else have the waterproof bearings on some Karavan trailers

I have a small trailer as I have a pretty small boat. I bought the trailer 5 years ago. It has permanently sealed bearings that require no maintenance. So far no problem. I'm starting to wonder what would happen though if I had a breakdown while on a trip. Especially a little concerned about being out in the middle of no where while on my annual Canada trip and having a problem. I'm thinking I should probably get a hub assembly to have on me as insurance. Just wondering if anyone else here has these bearings and your experience.

If you're talking about the "Vault" hubs you should jack up the trailer and check the bearings for play at least once a year.
Also check for any leaks at the seals. A little grease stain at the seale is supposed to be normal but any leakage or significant play in the bearings you should get them serviced. This link has good info on this type of hub.

Think I would put in a call to Karavan, ask them about a hub assembly and what it takes to change one out. Bet they have those built for them and per assembled on the axle. Find out who builds the axle and talk to them. Middle of no where is bad place to have that kind of problem.

I've been trading emails with Karavan. Working on getting a hug as a backup. If anyone is interested you can see info the bearing assembly here http://autoflex-knott.com/files/mari...ue_kpl_web.pdf

Its made by Autoflex Knott, Inc. and they will sell me the hub direct for $25. Karavan sells them for $68. It's the exact same part.
