    Currrent rate in my neck o' the woods is around 2,500 for 16' - 18' FG boats. and around 1,800 for aluminum boats. My concern would be if the transom is rotted, what shape are the stringers in.

    I've replaced several and from the DIY standpoint, I think Seacast or similar products are far and away the best route to take. Plywood is heavier and still subject to rot however, properly epoxied and laid up correctly should last for many years. It is not a weekend project. Cutting the cap is simple and straight forward, removing the old transom wood is a time consuming dirty task and no corner cutting. All the old wood MUST come out. Get it clean, carefully fit your new tansom in place, drill the holes, re-epoxy the cut edges, place back into the hull. Epoxy into place and clamp. Reglass the cap and finish.

    BuckeyeKdog the stringers and floor are new.

    So if you use Seacast or similar product you don't have to use plywood at all?

    On seacast take out old wood set form mix pour, there's Youtube on it . seems if done right it be the last time.
    Have to remove x inches from transom, then set form pour stringers.

    If I had to do it , I would go with the seacast.
    Just glad I have a tin boat..
