You have a gear box seal leaking letting water in....it has two seals one where the drive shaft goes in at the top of the gear box and another one on the bottom behind the prop.

Another common problem is the gaskets on the drain and vent plugs. They should be changed every time you change the oil. Its really cheap insurance against water intrusion.

BB is right replace you drain plug and fill plug gaskets first....it could be one of them....they are really not re usable and should be replaced each time you change the gear lube

I would check the bearings while you are in there. Water and bearings is not a good thing. A little wear on the bearings will be hard on a new seal. Also check that the shaft does not have a groove worn in it.

The seal for the shift shaft seal also needs to be checked. Not sure if it will leak on Muffs.

Get a seal kit and replace them all. Your gonna have it apart anyway. Its not that difficult, just pay attention to how it comes apart.
