Default Calling Dr Cane Pole...Is Dr Cane Pole in the House?

Mr Pole, while finishing up my electric kicker motor set up on my toon, I had a loose nut on the dash on what I assume would be rightly called a potentiometer. That allowed the knob to spin & the innards spun as well till the wires on the back side caught it. Not a good thing I know and I commenced ta fix it. I tore it up. Looking at it now in about 5 pieces, I was thinking I might could still fix it. But I am assuming again...I do that a lot when I don't know...I am assuming these wouldn't cost but a dollar or 2 if I could find whut I need. This has 3 soldered contacts/wires on the board and the markings I can find say ALPHA and there is this...B2.5K on it as well. Any idea where I could find one or is there a substitute item I could use? This will be used for the speed control by twisting the knob. i have other toggles for the forward/reverse and the up/down for the actuator so this thing is only for advancing the speed. I'm using a 24v Motorguide trolling motor mounted on a trim tab.

Radio Shack died. But them dummies were worse off than even me by my experiences wit them.

That would be a 2.5k potentiometer made by Alpha Company of Taiwan. If it is about a half inch thick and round as a quarter, then it is a 2 watt value. Now, is it short or long shaft? You can google it up, 2.5k 2w Alpha Potentiometer. I would suggestr getting a sealed type.

Hf15001 is part number. It shows on bottom right of the attachment of parts list. It is the rotary speed switch for a Motorguide foot pedal.

Thank you. The shaft is about an inch long.

What happened was...the nut attaching it to the panel let it get loose. All I needed to do was remove the knob & tighten it up but...The tiny set screw that holds the knob on wouldn't come out. I took it apart from the backside of the panel. Lifted the 4 "corner" tabs and seperated the thing being careful not to bend or mess with the contact surfaces. Shaft fits into a slot in the "insulator". Put it back together and it ain't right. Wasn't any corrosion to speak of except in that knob screw.

I've found a lot of info but apparently the one I have is obsolete and is replaced by something else. Not many pics on the sites I've been getting info. eBay is loaded down with em but not finding an exact match. Maybe it don't have to be exact.

A picture is worth a thousand words. The part can be subbed.

Is the pot used to control speed? If so, what?

A hacksaw is the adjustment tool for too long a pot shaft.

The pot is used for speed control only for a 24v Motorguide trolling motor...i have other rockers that control fwd/reverse for this motor and raise/lower for the actuator that positions the hinged stainless trim tab it's mounted to.

I'll get pic of the pot itself but you already know what it looks like the way u described it above. 3 soldered contacts, 1 turn rotary, and the total shaft length is a little over an inch...that's all the way down into the slot in the plastic insulator. I've searched for the smoke in it but none escaped just yet. Just give me time.

One would think they would sell knobs mated with these but I've yet to see that.

Potentiometer correct with three contacts. A rheostat with only two contacts. Fortunately, I am able to buy electronic components locally through Ralph's Electronics in Lafayette. Try here for what you might need:

    Hope this helps.

That 2.5k tells me the value. It is probably the pwm rate control setting component. Probably going to a LM324 oscillator somewhere.

PWM speed controls usually use either a 1k or a 5k. Get one and wire it up. Be sure of the center wire. The other two wires will be speed up or speed down direction. You cant hurt it. These pwm input control circuits are pretty much bullet proof.
