Look for another bolt either in the very front recessed in a hole or remove the trim tab. On some the trim tab bolt is very long and helps hold foot on or some have a bolt under the tab. Will see if I can find a diagram.
I need to replace impeller on my Johnson outboard. when I removed all bolts I still could not separate the lower unit. Is there a trick to it. I saw on a video that the shifter linkage may hold it together but shouldn't it separate about a 1/4 inch or so., in order to access the fastener on the linkage. any advice would be greatly appreciated. I just don't want to force it if I doing something wrong. Thanks in advance!

Look at #26 which is a stud. Bet you have to take the nut off to get her to drop. Hope this helps.

Make sure to put gear lube in the lower unit when finished. Neighbor just replaced the impeller on by Mariner and after running it about 5 miles all the gears are toasted.
might be a oval shaped cover over the connector for shift linkage
There are good videos on youtube on replacing water pumps (impellers) also. I think one was a 25 HP Johnson but a 25 evinrude would be the same to show you how.
Be safe and good luck fishing
Take the plastic screens off the lower unit and you will find two nuts that seperates the shift linkage.Loosen the brass one slide it up the shaft and remove assembly good luck. Make sure after its done that water comes out of pee hole.
