    Default Newer manual start motors

I am looking into buying a 9.9 hp kicker motor. My budget is tight so I may have to live without electric start. Can anybody tell me how well the newer manual outboards start? I am leaning towards a Yamaha or Evinrude because they offer a longer tiller. Also, how hard is it to add electric start later.

    thanks and good fishing

I would recommend that you buy the motor with electric start to start with as it is never a good deal to try to put it on later. In most cases it will cost a whole lot more later also. But if you do decide to do it later make sure that the flywheel has teeth on it to except ele. start as I have found that some don't have teeth and that the flywheel has to be changed out at a very high cost. Both motors are real good choices just go ahead and get the ele. start and you will be better off in my opinion.

All my motors are electric start, but I recently (2 yrs ago) purchased a 9.9 hp. electric start Nissan. It is extremely easy to pull start; I'm 67 yrs old with bursitis, and if the electric start dies, prob. won't have it fixed. My old 9.9 Evinrude is another situation entirely!

I think that I am going to save my pennies for an Evinrude E-TEC 15 HO with touch troll. As always I appreciate all your advice.
