Boat trailer brakes
Hello: I want to add trailer brakes to my trailer. I have a smaller vehicle now and would like to have surge brakes on the trailer. How hard is it to do ? How costly is it ? Single axle Easy Loader trailer for 17' aluminum boat. Thank You Good Luck O - R

It would be easier and probably cheaper just to find a used trailer with brakes. Youd be in the ballpark of $500+ for the backing plates, drums, pads, surge hitch, brake lines, etc. Not to mention all the work. That is if your axle is even compatible. Id start by calling EZ loader and give them the model # and see what they say.

Search the web for trailer supply stores I can't remember the name of the place I think the cost would be high. You'd almost have to replace the whole axle whether you went electric or hydraulic surge breaks I would tell you it would be cheaper to find a trailer that already has surge breaks to replace your trailer No expert on the topic but I could see where labor and material would run this over the cost of new trailer

First off, look behind your wheel and see if there is a square flange with 4 bolt holes. That would be where you would bolt the brake backing plate, or disc caliper. If you have the flange, then would need to buy a brake kit. If you look here for 10" drum brakes, the drums & hubs, brakes & backing plates, Actuator, and brake line kit would run a little over $300.
