Default Want help with gel coat repair/replace

I have a 1980 Kingfisher and the gel coat is like 320 grit sandpaper. I suspect it need to be wet sanded and resprayed. Any help or suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Wet sand it and spray it with automotive clear coat.

Go to an auto parts store that sells automotive paint. Get about a dozen sheets of "fine"(should be 1000grit) and about a dozen sheets of "ultra fine" (1200grit) wet or dry paper. Use plenty of water and go in straight lines. When the surface feels smooth to the touch, it's ready.

I've redone a couple with Imron clear and so far so good. Most failures are due to improper surface prep and cleaning Not sure about the newer clears but Imron needs
a bit of surface to adhere to thus the recommendation in their PDF below. I painted a Fiberglass ski boat in 1979 with automotive Imron and it still looks good. admitttedly, its only on the water a half dozen weekends year and is indoor stored the rest of the time

Painted a lot of cars/trucks/boats with Imron back in the 80s. That stuff is tuff. I agree completely that most, if not all, failures to stick are a result of improper surface prep.
