Sounds like condensation.....you need to keep your tank full
I just got my yamaha 4 stroke back out of the shop and the mechanic told me I had tons of water in my carbs. I use non ethanol gas every fill up and was wanting to know what I can do to prevent the problem from happening again thanks.

+1 on what G said............... a water seperator is almost a must have on about all boats nowadays..........Do you test the gas from the station to make sure it is in fact non ethanol? not saying the station owner is dishonest, but you are counting on many people to do there job right in order to have the correct gas in the storage tank............
If you have that much water in the gas either the gas is NOT ethanol free or if you have a built in tank you could have a leak around the sender allowing water to enter tank.
There are several ways to check for ethanol in the gas, from very simple test to added chemicals that will turn the test gas blue if ethanol is present
The simple method is to add a little water to a small glass vial ( jar ) mark the water line with a permanant marker, add fuel on top of water to top of tester, shake well and let sit for atleast five minutes.......... if since water mixes well with alcohol if ethanol is present the water level will be higher than the original waterline mark.
Spin on water filter system? Never heard of it . Does it go on the tank itself? Us there any fuel treatment I could put in to help the water situation?
I use Marine Stabil.

there is no additive that will remove the water from your fuel............a fuel water separator is cheap insurance, just mount it in a accessible place on the transom.
Then just replace cartridge periodically..........
It is my experience that often "non ethannol" gas actually has ethanol in it. I guess the fuel truck used the wrong nozzle or something, but it seems to happen pretty regularly.
A spin on filter is very helpful. I also like to use the "G2" inline filters from the automotive section of Walmart. Mount it out of the sun if possible, but since it's clear, it makes it easy to see what's going on in there.
Best thing is to siphon off any water in your tank into a clear gallon water bottle. Look for places where water can get in, such as around the fuel cap or hose fittings. I had a tank with a fuel gauge made into the cap. Water was getting in around the rim of the gauge. I swapped it for a non-gauge cap, and I haven't had any water in my gas since.

Sea Foam is the best fuel additive I have ever used. Been using it for many years. Friend of mine had the rear of his boat sink overnight on the Alabama River. Next day, we hauled his boat to the launch and drained all his gas, not at the ramp, then put fresh gas and can of Sea Foam. Motor started and ran well from then on.
