Default Changing Lower Unit Gear Oil Merc 25 4 stroke

I've been told to always replace the washer on both the drain and vent screws but I'm having a hard time finding them. Can appropriate size O rings be used in place of the washers with no leaking issues? Wanted to get opinions before doing so, thanks.

I wouldn't use an "O" ring in place of a flat washer. The seat is not machined for it so you would be taking a chance. What year is your motor?

It's a 2006 Mercury 25 hp 4 stroke. I bought some blue washers from a marine supply store but their a different inside diameter than the original washers. I'm just trying to use the correct washers so I don't have problems on down the road. Thanks for your reply

re-use the originals. Wipe them free of debris and go back with them. The blue ones are most likely a U.S. standard used by Johnson/Evinrude and true mercs. Your motor was built by Tohatsu. The original washers will give years of trouble free service.
    I'd rather be fishing.
