02 mercury 90 hp issue
I have a 2002 mercury 90 hp 2 stroke and it has a hard time starting and running off the get go but when I get up and running it runs great and starts fine any input would be greatly appreciated

It started within the last 2 months. I run sea foam every time I put gas in it. I thought about maybe running a higher quality fuel and see if that does anything

Check all your fuel lines. Especially the primer bulb as it is the first to go. All should be soft and pliable with no cracks. Turn the key on and push it in (you should hear a click) and hold it in for about 10 seconds. Then start the motor. If needed push the key in once in a while until the motor is running smoothly. If this doesn't work you will have to test the enrichner.

what barnacle bill said. The below is the proper start procedure per European Marine--those guys know for sure--and it works had problems with my 150 merc and started doing the below and it starts like it was a brand new motor no matter air temp cold or hot. Good luck
Try this--I was having problems on a 95 xr6--started using the proper procedure--no problems even when it's cold
1. Engine at LEVEL TRIM
2. Pump primer bulb FIRM
3. Throttle at IDLE POSITION (and in neutral)
4. Turn key ON, push in and hold for 10 seconds (one thousand one, one thousand two...... you get the picture)
5. Turn key to START position. If engine does not fire, repeat #2-#4.
6. If engine fires and stumbles, "bump" the key in momentarily (pushing in) until the engine continues to idle on it's own.
