Default warning horn issues on bass tracker

    hi all,
my brother purchased a 1988 bass tracker boat last winter from a family friend that rarely seen the water..he had wiring problems rite off the start and the motor wouldnt even seem to attempt to fire..i took the carb off and cleaned it a few times thinking maybe there was dirt in it..long story short come to find out it was the power pack was bad..anyways we replaced the power pack and used the old pack to switch the wires one by one so we forsure got them back on the correct way we took the old one off..the boat turned over and ran almost rite away after replacement..
so now heres the new problem..those boats had a built in radio on them and we decided to do away with the speaker on there (cracked and basically broke off) so we unhooked it and threw it out...also when we was getting parts for the boat the mechanic (35 plus yrs exp) recommended that we do away with the oil res and manually mix the oil ourselves (claims there was issues with these mixers) and said that way you will be 100% sure there is enough oil in the fuel and shouldnt have the risk of starving your motor for lube..we talked and decided it wasnt a bad idea cause it would also give us extra room for another trolling motor battery back there so we unhooked it from the boat...but now the warning horn that turns on for a few seconds when you first go to start the boat will not turn off..it keeps blowing..so i took the throddle apart and got to the purple and tan wires and unhooked the tan (ground wire) so the horn doesnt come on anymore...
not sure if anyone could give me imput on where we may have messed up? wouldnt think it would be from the speaker removal..
guess im no baot mechanic and shoulda left things alone
    thanks everyone for your help!!!

Your mechanic should have told you it isn't just a matter of removing the oil resevoir. It depends on exactly what motor you have but usually (on Merc motors) you have to remove the gear on the end of the oil pump and disconnect the wires for the low oil alarm. You need to get the horn reconnected because that also sounds when you have an overheating problem.

You might try disconnecting the electrical connection to the VRO Pump which is oil/fuel pump on motor.
