Default Yamaha 90 4st, water going everywhere, questions...

Alright guys, here's what's happening. I replaced my impeller yesterday, along with oil change, lower lube change, aftermarket f/w sep., cleaned stock fuel filter element (didn't have a new one available) and have a few questions for you. Maybe you don't know now, but could look the next time you run yours if you have this motor, and get back to me.

I usually flush mine using flush attachment, which isn't often. Other than duck hunting, I am not usually in too dirty of water. Anyhow, I was running it on the muffs yesterday after replacing the impeller, and there is water coming out in areas of the foot that I don't remember seeing it coming out. What I can recall seeing is water out the telltale, water coming out of a "weep hole" on the leading edge of the foot below the fin on the leading edge. Are you guys seeing any additional water coming out the top of that housing? I see it coming out the top of the housing, right below the motor pivot pin and a couple inches above the fin on the leading edge of the foot. I am thinking that is all an open area in there, and if there is more water being introduced into that housing that the weephole can evacuate, then it will "run over",coming out the opening at the top of the housing. I want to know if this is normal, if I've overlooked something and it's leaking? I ran it on the trailer at the river yesterday, although I couldn't get it deep enough to submerge this area of the foot. Pee stream is good, even on the muffs, but better in the water at the river. I'll post a pic of it off my phone so maybe it will be more clear as to what I'm talking about.

I would have thought that with as many of these motors that are out there it wouldn't be as hard to find something on this. Thanks for any info you might be able to shed on this.

Never been in one of those but going to make the assumption it has a water tube that came down whe you pulled lower unit. Also going to assume when you reassembled you either missed the hole that tube went in or knocked out the oring seal that seals the pipe to the block. Since you have water coming out pee hole betting on seal missing.

That's what I thought, so I took it back off to make sure. The rubber oring/grommet is still in there, although it may be leaking some idk. It is normal, for my motor at least, for water to be coming out the weep hole on the front side of the foot.(In a larger stream than the telltale) I just don't remember any coming out the top of the foot, above the weep hole. I would assume that if it was a big leak, then I wouldn't have much of a telltale, which isn't the case. I've have really good water pressure from the well at home also, I don't know if that would be a factor.

I will take a look later today or tomorrow when it warms up enough around this place
Just replaced the impellers on my two Yamaha's a 2008 60 hp 4S and a 2010 90Hp 4S - not started either yet been too much snow and too cold

As I remember the speedometer hose was a pain but getting the water pump connected to the motor intake was straight forward and the gear shift shaft went in easy

Do not ever remember water coming from the places you show

    Thank you, I appreciate it.

Is that what the small rubber line is that goes from in front of the water pump housing, up out the top of the foot housing (that shows in the pic) and up under the pivot housing and into the bottom of the upper cowling? I didn't know what that is for, as I don't have a speedometer on my dash. Curious as to why I would have that on the motor if I didn't spec. a speedometer, unless it just comes standard.

Thanks again for any light you may be able to shed on this.

First post used for helping someone out, that's great, and welcome to C.C

Yes that hose is the speedo intake and I would guess it is standard on all of the engines
There is a very small hole on the font side of the lower unit that is used as the pickup which then routes the water up the tube and on to the dash

Sorry I was not able yesterday nor will I be able today to get back to the project, too many projects and never enough time -
Let's plan on Tomorrow. Yesterday it warmed up to 38F today out of town, tomorrow is expected to be 60 or there abouts should be a good day to get them out of the shop and running again

Looks as if your water pressure and or volume is too high
Neither of mine have water coming out the places yours looks as if it does

Ok. Thank you. I was wondering if my hose pressure would affect it. I have heard from a dealer that this is normal (late yesterday). I guess I'll just run it. As far as I know, the whole idea is to get water through it, and I've got plenty coming out the telltale. Thanks for your trouble.

Ran the boat both days this last weekend. Not hot, and whizzing like a race horse, so it must be normal. (Just for someone searching at a later time)
