Is it difficult to replace steering cables on a bass boat? My steering is so hard, it's like working out at the gym just to turn the wheel.

First of all are you sure its the cables? Disconnect them from the motor and check to see if the motor turns freely. If it does it is probably the cables. Replacing them varies a lot with the boat. On some of them you have to remove the motor. Since you used the word cables instead of cable, it must be a 150 or larger which can complicate things due to the weight.

Thanks for the response Bill. Since the boat (and I presume the cables) is 22 years old, I'm just having the cables replaced. After almost running into a rock bluff yesterday when I could hardly turn the wheel at 40 MPH, I put safety ahead of money. My 3 year old daughter would be tremendously upset if daddy never came home again. Mommy probably would be too.
Your doing the right thing. They get that stiff next thing is something breaks. Your right that little girl would be Heartbroken.
